Softball advances to next round of State Tournament with a win over Brighton
Sydnie Monson showed timely hitting on Thursday, driving in four on three hits to lead Murray Spartans Varsity past Brighton 15-5 on Thursday. Monson drove in runs on a triple in the third and a double in the fifth.
Brighton scored four runs in the first inning, but Murray Spartans Varsity still managed to pull out the victory.
Murray Spartans Varsity pulled away for good with eight runs in the third inning. In the third Monson tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, Maddy Jessop homered on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs, Gabbe Pond doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run, and Alyssa McDonald doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Sadee Jennings led the Murray Spartans Varsity to victory in the circle. She went five innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out eight.
K Berdrum took the loss for Brighton. She allowed eight hits and six runs over two and a third innings, walking one.
W Barfuss started the game for Brighton. She allowed eight hits and nine runs over two and a third innings, striking out two and walking zero
Murray Spartans Varsity smacked one home run on the day. Jessop had a four bagger in the third inning.
