The Spartan boys are 3-0 in dual meets. Facing 6A challenger, Kearns, every Murray swimmer was vital. At the end of an intense night, only two points divided the squads: Murray 86 vs Kearns 84.
Freshman phenom, Gavin Holmberg, led Murray with 15 points. He won both of his individual events, the 100 back and 200 IM, by wide margins of 4.5 and 3 seconds respectively. Holmberg also swam the backstroke leg for the first-place 200 medley relay team.
Juniors Holden Cheney and Lincoln Yospe each contributed 13 points. Cheney powered to first in the 100 fly, and swam with the winning relay teams for the 200 medley and 200 free. Yospe closed out the individual 200 free in first place and anchored the 200 free relay team.
Top relay swimmers and scorers included Cameron Wright (11), Eric Thackeray (10), and Kelton Stock (9). Rounding out the score for Murray were Ethan Leonard (4.5), Devin Jessop (4.5), James Collings (2.5), Tyler Jacobsen (2.5), and Dutch Allen (1).
Senior Eden Preston and standout freshman, Kalie Lam, led the girls team with 12 points each. Preston outlasted the field in her specialty, the 500 free. Lam claimed first in the 100 back by a 3.4-second differential.
Points were also scored by Oaklee Greenland (8), Brooke Horton (8), Alejandra Uvario (7), Tylee Peak (5), Sara Gratton (3), Isabelle Wright (3), Riley Thompson (1), Abby Thornton (1), and Sarah Walton (1). Girls points totaled Murray 61 vs. Kearns 109.
