Boys Soccer battled the Snow and cold in Murray’s first preseason contest vs. American Fork on a Popcorn Friday. The first half was won by the elements as both teams adjusted to the snowy conditions and a 0-0 tie. After some halftime adjustments, Murray had the better scoring chances in the second, with Sam Osorio finally breaking into the scoring column midway through the half. Murray had another good scoring chance by Parker Richards that the American Fork Keeper made a finger tip save that bounced off the crossbar and the rebound shot from Sam Osorio hit the post. It remained tied until three minutes into extra time, when American Fork tied it on a header from a corner kick.
In the JV match, Murray forward Barrett Schafer ran onto a through ball by Conway Christensen, and chipped an onrushing keeper for the only goal. The goal celebration was equally as pretty as many members of the team got into the action with superman slides in the snow.
Big thanks to a pretty big crowd that braved the elements to cheer on their Spartans and to those who chipped in cleaning up afterward.
Next matches are Tuesday, March 12 vs Cyprus at Murray Stadium starting at 3:30
