The boys enjoyed some more soccer-appropriate weather than the first game as Murray welcomed 6A unbeaten Cyprus to Murray Stadium. Murray controlled much of the first half possession, culminating in a nice goal by Sam Osorio on a pass by Jordan Goddard to take a 1-0 lead to halftime. Cyprus upped their pressure and scored an equalizer on a counter attack early in the second half. Midway through the second, a miscommunication from the Murray back line led to an own goal and Cyprus followed up another defensive lapse to take a 3-1 lead. Murray closed to within 1 with four minutes left on a wicked 35 yard strike off a free kick by Lucas Maynes. The final few minutes were a flurry of activity as Murray search to even the score, but time expired with Cyprus coming out on top 3-2
In the JV game, Cyprus took an early lead on a misplayed ball out of the back and the score stood 1-0 at halftime. In the second half, Murray had a number of chances and finally broke through on a goal from Landon Stock on an assist from Barrett Schafer. Moments later, Murray was disappointed when Riley Murray got behind the Cyprus defense on a breakaway and was dangerously taken down from behind in the box, but the whistle for the foul was not blown and the game ended in a 1-1 Draw.
Next preseason action for the Varsity and JV teams will be against another 6A traditional powerhouse, the Davis Darts on Friday, March 15th at Davis High School.
