Murray HS Boys Soccer traveled to take on the 6A Davis Darts on Friday, March 16th in preseason action. In the varsity game, Murray absorbed early pressure from Davis and gradually took the advantage on time of possession, but couldn’t generate much in the offensive third. The teams battled back and forth to a halftime stalemate of 0-0. About a minute into the second half, Davis played a ball over the top that led to a shot, which hit off the post and bounced into the goal. The score remained the same as the level of physicality increased throughout the second half. With 14 minutes left in regulation, a through ball found Murray forward Parker Richards, who back-heeled a pass to Tyler DeMann. Tyler used a quick touch to avoid a defender and sent a short pass back to Parker who one touched a shot past the keeper into the back of the net to tie the score. The score remained tied at the end of regulation and through double overtime as both teams had scoring chances. Jaxon Waldram made a great save in overtime to preserve the draw.
JV came out ready to play and in the 4th minute, Landon Stock redirected a free kick past the goalie for the first score. Less than three minutes later, Brian Garcia made a near post run on a corner kick and his header found the back of the net. Just before halftime, some good combo play again found Landon Stock open in the box and he rocketed a shot into the net to make it 3-0 at halftime. As frustration grew, the game got rather chippy, and the quality of play decreased. Davis was able to pull one goal back in the second, but the Murray defense held them in check to finish off the 3-1 win.
Next games are Tuesday March 19th at 3:30 vs the Brighton Bengals at Murray Stadium.
