Murray Spartans Varsity Holds Onto Victory As Woods Cross Almost Erases 5-Run Deficit
Murray Spartans Varsity built a five-run lead in the sixth inning and then held off Woods Cross’s charge for a 7-5 victory on Friday.
Murray Spartans Varsity earned the victory despite allowing Woods Cross to score four runs in the sixth inning. Woods Cross’s big inning was driven by a walk by Chris, by Dylan, and an error on a ball put in play by Karson.
In the first inning, Woods Cross got their offense started when an error scored one run for Woods Cross.
In the top of the third inning, Murray Spartans Varsity tied things up at one. Murray Spartans Varsity scored one run when Devin Brown singled.
Murray Spartans Varsity pulled away for good with three runs in the fifth inning. In the fifth Isaac Norton was hit by a pitch, driving in a run and an error scored two runs for Murray Spartans Varsity.
Brown led things off on the pitcher’s mound for Murray Spartans Varsity. He lasted four innings, allowing just one hit and one run while striking out three.
Murray Spartans Varsity scattered 13 hits in the game. Connor Preece, Jonah McBride, Kaden Boyle, and Dillyn Thomas each managed multiple hits for Murray Spartans Varsity. McBride and Preece each collected three hits to lead Murray Spartans Varsity.
Ian Winterhalder pitched in relief of Devin Brown to pick up the save on the mound.
